We would like to offer you a warm welcome to St Mary Magdalene CE Primary School. We are a one-form entry voluntary aided Church of England Primary School in the Diocese of Southwark. The school is linked to the parish of St Mary Magdalene. It is situated in the centre of Peckham in the London Borough of Southwark. In 2001 the Diocese, funded by the DFES, built a new school on the site adjacent to the old building and this was opened in April of that year.
We believe that children should have the benefit of a broad and balanced curriculum. All children have the opportunity to attend a wide range of after school clubs and courses. We are particularly keen to develop children’s interest in music, art, drama, theatre and dance. As the school develops, we want to continue to broaden the experiences on offer to the children in these areas so that they become real strengths of the school.
As a Church of England school we follow guidelines set down by the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education. St Mary Magdalene has a distinctive Christian ethos which runs through the life of the school. Children are encouraged to explore spirituality and to develop a knowledge and understanding of their own faith and other faiths. Our aim is that children would leave the school demonstrating a Christian ethos having a respectful attitude to people of all beliefs.
The school is well resourced and has stimulating resources for teaching the National Curriculum and particularly Information and Communication Technology (ICT). We have a computer suite and all classrooms have an interactive whiteboard and projector which are used throughout the school as a teaching and learning resource. We have a new environmental area called ‘Muck and Miracles’ where the children learn about plants and animals. They also have the opportunity to gain first hand experience from planting and looking after fruit and vegetables as they grow.
In 2009 the school had a very successful OFSTED inspection when the Inspectors judged the school "outstanding" in all areas of its work. Copies of this report can be downloaded from our website and are available from the school office or on the Internet at www.ofsted.gov.uk. This demonstrates the strength and commitment of our staff team and with your children's help we have ambitions to grow from strength to strength.
